Ariston, poor product worse service
I am writing to inform you of a problematic geyser produced by Ariston for Builders that was installed at my property. I do not recall the exact date unfortunately. However this was an insurance claim from a leaking geyser that was replaced with this product. After installation of the geyser I noted that the water is boiling hot, I turned down the thermostat to around 55, it did not resolve the problem. I logged a call via my insurance again and they sent the same installer, who in turn simply replaced the thermostat. This did not resolve the problem. Again, I raised this with my insurance and it ended up that your Ariston sent out a technician to evaluate the problem. His finding was that nothing is wrong with the geyser. He could not explain his finding, which too me was very strange.
I was left to resolve this issue on my own. I decided to remove the replaced thermostat which I noticed was slightly bent, and replaced it with the original one the next day. Somehow it resolved the problem which is mind boggling. Now, nearly a year later the same problem has started again. The water is overheating, and the prepaid electricity units are used at a very high rate. With other words, the element is not switching off. I realized that the thermostat would be out of warranty and therefore purchased a new one. Since I don't trust this particular model or make of geyser I decided to purchase a Kwikot unit with the same specifications. I replaced the old one with the new one only to find that it did not resolve the problem. This is when I escalated the matter to my insurance as I am of opinion that this must be sorted via the insurance with the supplier or installer. A plumber was dispatched yesterday, I gave him the history and he then said it is possible that the element is faulty and that it is no longer under warranty. I do not have a problem with that and the insurance would cover the call-out and the first R1000,00 of the cost. He then tested the element confirming that it was faulty and came to replace the element this morning, he said that he replaces the thermostat in anyway and that I can remove the one I installed. I did remove it. After he replaced the two components this morning, he left. A few hours later I had the water checked, and to my disappointment it was overheating again. I raised this matter with the plumber who then said he would escalate it. Eventually a lady from Ariston called me this afternoon asking me to explain the problem. She asked if the geyser is leaking to which I said no. She then said well then there is nothing she can do. I requested, actually demanded that this unit must be replaced as a whole because clearly there is a fault somewhere. Again she said the components are out of warranty and that is the only thing that could cause the problem. She could not tell me or give an explanation to the problem. I requested that a technician be sent out again to come and evaluate the problem. What is the likelihood that three thermostats and a new element are all faulty? She then asked if the plumber checked the electric fittings, to which I said he tested the geyser with a multimeter. The DB does not trip, and has never tripped. If there was an electrical fault it would have surfaced already. I believe that there is a short somewhere which causes the element to remain powered and this caused the water to overheat and use excessive electricity. Basically the element remains on permanently.
