Empty promises

On a call to Aramex today, I couldn't help but shake my head as they promised to deliver next business day by 12 between major centers in their marketing message playing while holding on. I send a parcel from Port Elizabeth on 17 July. On the 19th it showed that it was out for delivery - I was very surprised since the 19th was a Sunday. And then all went quiet. Today - 23 July it showed again that it was out for delivery. Since the intended recipient on the other end was obviously irate by now, I decided to do the call as mentioned in the first sentence. I was assured that the parcel was definitely with a driver (which could not be contacted) and that it would definitely be delivered by 17:00 today. She couldn't explain what had happened to the parcel between the 19th and today (the 23rd). I put my tail between my legs, called the intended recipient, apologized profusely and assured him that his parcel will be delivered by no later than 17:00. It is now 17:42. The parcel has not been delivered. The Aramex operator apologized and informed that all managers have already gone home. They will try to find out what is happening tomorrow. Do not think that this is an isolated case. This is the 3rd time in 3 weeks that Aramex in JHB has failed completely. So how many parcels that I send to JHB was delivered as promised you might ask - NONE. Does anyone know if Aramex is an SOE perhaps?
