Courier Nightmare
I'l keep this simple - its late. Read this timeline and let me know how you’d handle this if you were in my shoes:
1. Arrange 1 week in advance urgent collection for Friday 1 July at 3PM from supplier in Johannesburg to client in Upington - 790km away. 2. Double-check on day of collection that courier is on schedule. 3. Courier fails to collect - doesn't phone to confirm what step comes next. 4. Leaves it for 3 days, as supplier is not open on weekends. 5. Client waiting for urgent parcel to ship to Europe from Upington. 6. Courier company apologises, promises to get parcel to the client by ‘latest’ Tuesday, overnight. 7. Tuesday comes and goes - no delivery. 8. Courier apologises - parcel will arrive Wednesday morning. 9. Client is understandably anxious. 10. Wednesday morning comes and goes - courier lets me know that parcel has ‘accidentally’ gone to Cape Town - 830km away from Upington. 11. Client has already missed airfreight deadline - now has to plan heavy parcel as carry-on luggage. 12. Thursday comes and goes. No delivery. No comms from courier. 13. Friday comes and goes. No delivery. Again, no comms from courier. 14. Courier company finally phones client on Saturday to deliver, after clear instruction that their business is closed weekends. 15. Monday 11/07/2022 comes and goes - no delivery, no comms from the courier. 16. I finally phone every possible office to find out what the **** is going on. 17. Head office says, according to system the parcel is still in Cape Town. ‘They’ll escalate and call me back. Very sorry.’ Agent says he can’t believe how calm I sound over the phone. 18. I was calm. Until I realised that a massive international courier company doesn't even know where a parcel is. 19. At this point I am more furious than my client, and that is saying something. 20. Courier finally phones client at 5:30PM to deliver parcel - client repeats to courier that their office closes at 5PM, like most businesses - he’ll have to come back in the morning. 21. Upington is in the middle of nowhere - how is it possible to get a delivery so wrong when the parcel is already in the destination town? 22. Head office still hasn’t phoned me back as promised. 23. Tomorrow is 12 July - 8 days late. Client is getting ready to travel to Europe. 24. If client doesn't receive parcel, it misses the Europe deadline - client will be refunded for their order. 25. Suffice it to say, should the above happen, the courier will not only be liable for their own courier fee, but also the cost of the customer’s order.
I'm sure you will agree that I'm not being unreasonable.
