Abysmal
This company is going to go bankrupt soon if it doesn't change it's attitude towards serving customers. I've just emailed the CEO, Andy Van Der Velde my dissatisfaction with their complete service start to finish (or lack thereof). I ordered a R300 item on Amazon on 4th August, 2019. It's the 22nd today, and no parcel. Nobody bothered to call me to let me know that there is an issue with customs and instead, I found an obscure email in my junkmail box a week ago requesting my ID number, physical address and bank statements. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but those three items together can allow someone to ***** one's identity, especially in this country where ***** and *******ion is rife. I sent him my ID, address and refused to send my credit card statement and didn't hear back from them. Yesterday, 21st August, I mailed the guy and asked what's happening with my parcel. He said, they still want my credit card statement or an excerpt thereof. He never asked for an excerpt of it before, just the whole statement. I sent it to him and still haven't heard anything back. In Summary: I paid R300 for the item, R708 for Aramex shipping and R84 in advance for Import Duties. I know Amazon supplies the courier a copy of the invoice which has my ID number on it as Amazon make a point of it for you to enter your ID in your profile to speed up customs clearance. They also supply my phone number, why I don't know, because clearly Aramex don't have telephones in their business, just email.
I tried to call them numerous times but the phone just rings and rings until the phone self-destructs and gives up.
If you're in the logistics business, you make it your business to know the requirements of bringing parcels into the country - ensure you have a copy of the invoice from Amazon, make sure the delivery address and ID number and phone number are on that invoice and that all amounts paid (value of the item, value of shipping and import duties paid in advance) are on the invoice. It's that simple really. Frankly I think the company is run like it's a parastatal. The Post Office gives way better service and that's saying a lot. We accept that things will go wrong sometimes, but keep the customer informed!!! I AM the customer as I PAID for the shipping, not Amazon. I can also influence Amazon's decision to use them again in future and I will.
