Complaint Against Appliance Guru – Overpriced Repairs & Warranty Not Honoured

I recently had my washing machine repaired by Appliance Guru, and I am extremely dissatisfied with their service. My machine had an issue with washing, and they replaced the door interlock, charging me R1,800 for the repair. However, I later discovered that the actual cost of the door interlock from Defy is only R390, meaning I was grossly overcharged for labour—especially considering the repair took less than 30 minutes.

Despite the invoice stating a 6-month warranty, the exact same issue occurred again within two weeks. When I contacted them, instead of honouring the warranty, they quoted me R2,680 for a replacement PC board. I then checked with Defy, who confirmed that the exact same PC board costs only R1,600—again proving that Appliance Guru’s pricing is highly inflated.

This is completely unacceptable. Not only was I overcharged for the first repair, but they are now attempting to charge me R1,080 more than the actual cost of the part for the second repair. Their pricing practices are deceptive, and their so-called 6-month warranty is meaningless if they refuse to stand by their work.

Desired Outcome: I request a full refund of R1,800 and for Appliance Guru to remove the door interlock from my washing machine immediately. I will be handling the repairs directly with Defy.

I am posting this complaint to warn other consumers about Appliance Guru’s excessive pricing, poor service, and failure to honour warranties. I hope they take accountability and resolve this matter fairly.
