APPLE'S BUREAUCRATIC UNILATERAL HARDLINE APPROACH STINKS
I have been using Apple products since the year dot and I have just had the most impersonal and cold and calculating reply from Apple ... this relates to an Apple 3 watch that was 24 days out of Apple screen warranty and the warranty was rejected on that basis. The watch developed a hairline crack about 4 weeks ago ... no outward sign of abuse or damage as a result of dropping or bumping the watch.
It continued to function normally but (according the Apple technical staff), the charging and heating up of the battery caused the one side of the hairline crack on the watch to lift. That caused the watch to stop accepting touch instructions, although it continued to work. It was taken to Apple and within 3 days I was told it was beyond repair and I would have to pay just short of R4,000 to replace it!!
I rejected this offer and asked for escalation for Apple to consider replacement as there was no clear indication that the hairline crack that had appeared was due to my use or possible an Apple fault.
After a further 3 days Apple rep**** that because they have a 3 year exception warranty on the glass and seeing that the watch was bought on 2 Feb 2018 and brought in to Apple on 26 Feb 2021. the warranty had lapsed by 24 days and thus cannot be entertained.
This is such a hypocritical and anti PR decision that smacks of arrogance and disinterest. Despite the fact that we almost exclusively use Apple in our entire family. Some 18 instruments in all, we will from now on make a point of supporting and purchasing anything but Apple.
This attitude of Apple will have no effect on their worldwide success initially but will eventually come back to haunt them.
A classic case in question is Rank Xerox that had a world monopoly on copiers and they hardly exist today ... same reasoning.
I wish Apple all the possible misfortunes that hopefully come their way. I am done with so called techNo giants with ZERO empathy.
