Questionable accounts

We recently moved to an Angor managed complex. Since the move our electricity consumption has more than tripled from what we use to pay. We inquired with them but they insist they read our meter yet they cannot show us what meter and make it impossible to move over to prepaid. In fact they say if we move to prepaid we will still be liable for a body corporate bill and may only use a service provider of their choice that charges 10% more than their rate. We are buckling under these tremendous bills and they have no answer for us but to pay. Their practices are extremely questionable.

Thank you for your query regarding electricity consumption and the request to have a prepaid meter installed in your unit.
The electricity readings and amount shown on your levy statement is as per the readings taken on your unit's meter recording your consumption. On 28 May 2016, the Financial Controller for your building offered to send an electrician to check the meter to ensure that it was not faulty. It was explained that if the meter was not faulty, you would be liable for the call out fee but if the meter was found to be faulty, the Body Corporate would replace the meter at no cost to you. You accepted the call out of an electrician on 21 July 2016.
As per pervious correspondence, a prepaid meter was approved by the Trustees on condition that you cover all costs involved in installing and maintaining the meter and any costs involved in loading electricity. A Prepaid meter allows you to budget and manage your consumption which may result in reduced consumption and therefore a saving. Please note that there are additional service changes associated with prepaid electricity which may result in a higher monthly costs.
