Appealing service
My average monthly electricity bill for 2014 has been roughly R150 and during the months of July, August and September it surprisingly shot up to a fixed R350, R233 and R950, respectively and that raised a concern. When I enquired, I was advised of the following: firstly that my meter is faulty and I should not be paying that little per month (even though I live on my own and do not consume that much electricity) and that faulty meters are charged a fixed amount of R350 - which is not fair given my average spend. When did the meter become faulty and when was the new one installed? Why am I being charged different amounts instead of the fixed R350 they claim to be standard for faulty meters? They could not confirm when the meter became faulty and provided different dates as to when the new one was installed. Then I was advised that everyone's bill shot up in September, that it's Eskom's fault and I should just pay like everyone did. This is very hypocritical, why is it that when they believe I'm paying too little for electricity, it's ok to assume my meter to be faulty and charge R350 but are not willing to apply the same principle when they claim it's Eskom's fault?
Unfortunately, ANGOR is unable to reverse a decision which has been made after due consideration by the Chairman and Trustees of your complex and which has already been communicated to you. To re-iterate, your meter was faulty and as per standard procedure, you were billed the average of R350 for that month. Once your meter was replaced, your bill was charged at the standard Eskom rate and increased to R950, not unusual during winter months. All owners in the complex were similarly affected. You raised the matter at the Trustee Meeting held 25 February 2015 where you agreed to an average charge based on usage over the first 3 months after installation of the new meter. This calculated out at R598.84 for which you were duly charged. The matter was discussed with the Chairman today and he has ruled that this amount will stand as per your agreement at the Meeting in February.
