Shameful dishonesty

I received a phone call from Anglo Debt Assessors. They completely misrepresented themselves, not mentioning they were debt councellors, although they did mention the NCR.

Their sales pitch (and it WAS a sales pitch) is "We can save you up to 50% of your monthly debt repayments. Doesn't that sound great?"

Well, who wouldn't like the sound of that!

They did not state they were debt counsellors, and it was only through repeated questioning *how* exactly they proposed to save me this 50%, that I was told it was "different ways, including negotiating with creditors, ...and debt review." When I questioned the "debt review", it was brushed off as not important. When I asked what the catch was, I got no answer. When I asked how much this service would cost me, they told me it was free. I repeated that back to them, and was told yes, it is completely free. THIS IS A LIE.

I got very nervous when they started asking about my monthly entertainment and food expenditure, not understand what this had to with their sales pitch...

They gave me a number NCRDC2544 when I told them I wanted to look them up online. I couldnt' find a website for them, just some Facebook pages.

They are registered as debt counsellors on the NCR website (although the NCRDC2544 number they gave me belongs to Green Debt Solutions?), and some internet research has told me that Debt Counselling is not free at all. After all, they have to make money to stay in business. www.debtcounselling.co.za was *very* informative. Apparently they take their "fee" out of your bulk monthly payments you make to them, for them to pay over to your creditors. If they had been honest upfront about their motives, I could have told them I was not in any debt crisis. I was just interested as to *how* they proposed to "reduce my debt repayments, without paying more interest".

Shameful dishonesty, designed to lure unwary people into their net.
