We wanted to extend our front veranda. A friend of ours recommended his cousin, Andries Potgieter from Uitenhage. Andries and my husband became mates - we had a braai on a odd occasion. We were provided with a quotation - R12 500. We were told that the job would take approximately 3-4 weeks. 25% deposit up front, 25% when the job was almost done and the balance once the job was completed(something in that line). Andries mentioned that his credit card was maxed - and ask for more up front. We paid him R9500. From day one there were problems, walls were meters out of line. Building looked messy. My husband broke down the walls or dug the cement up about 3 times. Jacks were to be used to support the current stoep from sagging. Workers would be dropped off at 10 in the morning and collected any time after 14h00. More money was requested at some point. A job that was due to take 3-4 weeks to complete took 12-15 weeks. The end result is incomplete, bad plastering, stairs are twice as large as what they were suppose to be. In my honest opinion this man is a bull **** business man whom takes no pride in his job or his work. We got another builder after a few months to build a brick wall around the edge of the veranda as well as a braai. The end result is that a roof is to be placed etc making it a indoor braai which extends from our lounge. As I sit on my veranda today the extended part of the veranda has sagged to such an extent that the brick wall buildt on top and around the veranda is no longer connected to the veranda. It looks as if the brick wall is floating in mid air. I can place a 125g tin can between the veranda floor and the buildt brick wall on top. My husband has sent photos via whatapp, tried to call this man etc. To no avail. Once he did answer a whatsapp and said that he would come buy our house and look what the problem is and come an fix it at his cost. To this date Mr Potgieter has not been to our house and completely ignores any form of communnication. We require urgent advise and guidance please
