Non-transparent on cost and excessive charges for parts

Short summary: ask him what's broken, what it will cost per item fixed and what his labour is upfront before he touches anything. Not transparent on cost or labour charges and extremely expensive. Repairs were quick on my fridge and call-out fee was communicated upfront. Repair cost was excessive and his argument was that I had to pay for his experience of knowing where to look. I checked the cost of 3 parts which totalled R1100. Ended up getting an invoice for R3200 to replace a starter motor kit. 'Labour' was almost R1800 for 30 minutes work as the parts used did not look brand new. Invoice wasn't itemised so no way of knowing how much I was overcharged by. I argued and he gave me a small discount as I wasn't willing to pay such an excessive amount. I did a similar repair for a starter motor kit on my fridge last year and that was half his cost with a warranty included. Check Google reviews and rely on people with transparent cost structures upfront, don't make them same mistake I did by not asking that upfront otherwise you'll get exploited as well.
