shocking service

my boyfriend is (was) insured with Anderson. Yesterday he had a problem with the car, when he called them, they told him the policy is cancelled due to non payment. He was never notified either via phone, sms, email or via post that the policy is cancelled. He has been driving his car all along thinking that he has the peace of mind because his car is insured, only to find out the car is not insured. How can an insurer cancel a policy and not notify the insured? If premiums were not paid, why according to his statement is there a debit order that went off sucessfully. Another question is even if he missed that particular payment, didnt they give him a grace period and run another debit order? Whatever the reason or whatever the process, he should have been notified. I too have a car and i will never insure with Anderson if this is how they treat their customers. I am shocked for years.
