Why should we beg for our own money

Last week my wife made a payment R700 in store. As usual bank confirmed payment was made but the store could not issue a receipt confirming approval or that the payment was declined. To add fuel they insisted that we produce a bank statement. Now a week later second trip to the store armed with the bank statement still no reversal or cash. Why should we beg for our own money
