Is TFG above the law?

I am deeply disappointed in the way my complaint was handled.

I lodged a complaint with TFG on the 10th of November 2022, ref # CS - ***. When I wanted to purchase a watch at the Bayside store, which was on display for R499, I was refused because it was a human error. I lodged a complaint with TFG that same day it happened. I was sent an SMS with a reference number that it was logged. A week later I received no feedback. I called again and the consultant advised that she escalated the query to the operations. Later that day on 16 November I received an SMS to say that the query has been resolved.

Nobody phoned me, I received no feedback. I followed up with the store myself. The manager offered 10% discount for my inconvenience which I feel is unfair. According to the consumer law, I am supposed to get the watch at the displayed price? Why is this not applicable? Is it only applicable to "certain" people? Am I not important enough to get an item at the displayed price as stated in the consumer act? Does TFG not confirm to said ACT?

To this day, except for the SMS notification about my query being logged and resolved, no-one from TFG contacted me to find out what happened.

I have just come off the phone with the area manager Chantel De Nobrega. Can someone please explain in laymen's terms what she just told me?

I explained to her the events in the store, I went to the store, saw a watch priced at R499, and told the consultant that I want the watch. Stood at the counter waiting for the consultant to ring it up and pay for it. After the consultant scanned the item she informed me that the price is incorrect and the item is actually R899 and not R499. This is what I explained in so many words to Chantel.

Chantel tells me, that the consultant was not transacting at the time she scanned the item, she was verifying the price. I quote "They have the right to verify the price before transacting. No monies or cards were given so it was not a transaction". From a consumer point of view, standing on the other side of the counter, how do I know when a consultant is verifying a price or transacting? How do I know she was not verifying but transacting and noticed the price was wrong and canceled the transaction? I am standing on the other side waiting to pay. I have no clue what happens on the other side of the counter. As a customer, please tell me how I know when a consultant is doing a price verification and when she is doing a transaction. Let me add, I was only informed about the incorrect price after the item was scanned. No verbal information prior.
