First time buyer worst experience at American express

On the 15th of Dec I bought 3 watches at American swiss clear water as gifts but the people I bought the watches for had received similar gifts for Christmas and I Decided to take two of the watches back for a return as I did not have need of them any longer. So I tried to return 2 of these watches back to Clearwater only to hear the store cannot refund me as they do not have any cash available. I bought the gifts using my debit card and the lady told me that they cannot send the money to my account because I used a debit card what *** return policy is this the same happened to me at cresta and Westgate mall. I need to return these watches back asap. This is the worst customer experience I have ever experienced. For a jewelry store to tell me they cannot refund only 2000 rand
