Consumers don't have to accept bad service & products

I bought a pair of silver earrings at American Swiss in Springbok. When I put them on in the car, the clip did not click in firmly to secure the earring and I immediately returned the earrings and bought another pair. When I put them on the next morning the pin on the earring for the butterfly bent. I took them off and noticed that the pins on both earrings and the earnings themselves are soft and bend very easily. I wondered if it is silver-plated aluminium and checked for a silver hallmark/stamp and did not see one on either earring. I went back to American Swiss to request a refund and was told that American Swiss does not give refunds on earrings, without even asking why I would like to return them. I told the sales lady, Belinda, to read the back of the till slip for the refund policy and she called the manager of the store. I asked her to check for the silver hallmark which she confirmed was not on the earnings, but on the butterflies. I insisted on a refund which I got and on my way out suggested to Belinda that she needs to know the company refund policy as well as consumer rights before refusing to give a refund. She interrupted me mid-sentence, raised her voice and told me that the unpleasant situation had arisen because of my attitude. The store manager attempted to get Belinda to stop raising her voice and cutting me off, reminding her that I am a customer. On 21 October I lodged a complaint with TFG American Swiss Customer Care and followed up numerous time thereafter, each time receiving a similar response: "Kindly be advised that according to our records this matter has been addressed and a response has been provided. This record will be logged as resolved". To date, 28 November, I have had no acknowledgement that Belinda's attitude and behaviour was inappropriate and no explanation why the "silver" is soft and bends easily, with no silver hallmark/stamp. TGF American Swiss Customer Care, clearly don't care.

Reviewer Update
Pity I had to resort to Hello Peter to get a response, rather than being contacted at the time of the complaint to Customer Care. The email and call I received shortly after posting my review was more about damage control than customer care (in this case customer don't care). The email from customer care (above) was ONCE AGAIN the standard disinterested communication, fobbing me off to someone else. By the time the message got to the area manager on the day of my review, whilst the call was very professional, understanding and apologetic, the damage was already done. I can't trust the service, the product or the after-sales/customer care and will not be spending my money at American Swiss again
