Worst spa experience ever. Hubby and I were spending a short period in Durban and wanted to relax at a spa. Saw deal for Ambrosia on a daily deal website. Wanted to call to ensure they could accommodate us on the dates we were in Durban. Called spoke to? Maneki who said she'd do the same deal for us with cutting out the website. Agreed and booked appointment. Hubby felt a bit uneasy about the deal so I told him I'd email her to have in writing our agreement. I am still awaiting a reply to my email. On day of spa, our Bolt driver got lost. I called to inform the same lady and told her we would be 10 minutes late. (We were actually 6 minutes late). Walked in to a very icy reception from same lady, clearly unimpressed that we were late. Because of our tardiness and being aware that they were on a schedule, hubby and I undressed quickly and popped head out door to let the ladies know we were ready. We waited another 10 MI utes before they entered. (I no longer felt guilty about the time) They made so much noise setting everything up- banging, clanging bowls and boiling kettles. Not very conducive to a relaxing spa environment. The treatment room was an empty living room like space filled with 3 treatment beds. Our first treatment was an exfoliating facial. Facials are supposed to be slow and gentle. Well I felt like my the****** was scrubbing a stubborn pot. She rubbed so hard and with no care. After the 3rd exfoliation round I was in so much pain I asked her to stop. My cheeks are still red 2 days later.y husband had the exact same experience. The rest of the treatments (full body massage, foot massage and back scrub) weren't much better. It was very evident that this was just a job for these ladies--the was no care or passion, just going through the motions. As they finished they showed us rating sheets and a little Tips envelope. We were very honest in our review and we wonder who actually read it. We are pretty sure it was thrown straight in the bin. We paid and actually couldn't get out of there quick enough. We spa fairly often and truly haven't experienced anything near as shocking as this.
