We went off the grid and called Jacobus Cilliers at Alternatavie Power Solutions to install a solar system for us.<br> He told us that we dont need anything more than a 3kw system but we decided to go for the 5kw to make sure that we are not with out power.<br> <br> We are a retired couple living on a plot outside of Brits. We decided to draw our last life savings to go off the grid because Eskom is to expensive for us. Needless to say Mr Jacobus arrived to install the solar system and from day one we had problems.<br> <br> He charged us R18 000 for the invertor which he claimed to be a Mercer Inverter and they sell for about R10 800.00 The batteries was supposed to be gel batteries for deep cycle and he installed 6 105ah and 2 100ah batteries. All the batteries have to be the same amps. He charged us for 250 watt solar panels and installed 240 watt panel. We have been struggling along for 2 weeks now and only have 4 hours of power a day.
