Rude Owner

So, we booked for a weekend away for this upcoming long weekend. My friends stayed in Paternoster this past weekend and a gang broke into the place they stayed at nearby, very traumatising experience, she woke up with a guy standing over her.

This has become a regular occurrence in Paternoster where the gangs are targeting guest houses/airbnbs and they are managing to get in no matter what. Also very suspicious how easily the burglars are getting in and they know all the guest houses out of their head. So due to security issues we want to cancel our trip, as I feel safer at home than going there and they can’t ensure my safety. Our long weekend is ruined and we won’t be able to book anywhere else.

I understand taking a 50% deposit, but they are insisting that we pay the outstanding 50%.

Stating firstly that it’s petty crime (I should just lock the doors, even though the burglars are still opening locked doors) basically dismissing what happened to my friends and saying what happened to them is petty.

Then I was told by the owner that because I’m a lady I’m making an emotional decision for cancelling our booking and that I should deal with it. And that he hopes we have a nice carefree life! Very patronising and rude when I was simply just stating my concerns for our safety and asking him to ensure that we will be safe.

Its the same rental company (paternoster rentals) and the same owner that also owns this property and he knows exactly what is happening with the guests.

Absolutely shocking, not caring about your guests safety, dismissing their concerns and are just after money. Ironic isn’t it.
