Unhappy about policy rules when it comes to increasing cover amount. I took out a new life policy with All Life, understandingly the premiums are high due to added risk caused by multiple chronic illnesses. What I didn’t understand is why I do not have the option to increase the cover amount on the existing cover in the future. I was told that if I want the increase the cover amount I need to take out and additional policy and that the beneficiary of that policy cannot be the same as the existing policy. My issue is that I only have one beneficiary and if I increase the cover it’s because I need that to have more cover. The consultant went on to keep telling me that maybe in the future I will have children I wish to make beneficiaries and I can then take more cover in the new policy for them, this solution does not fix my problem. What if I can never have children? Does that mean I can only ever have one policy with a low cover amount that can never increase even if my needs change and it no longer fulfill my needs? Also she said I can cancel the current policy and take out a new one. What about the 3 year buildup thing? I would need to start at 0 even though I have had a policy for many years and essentially qualify based on that policy.
I want to know why I can either increase the current policy amount or take additional covert with same beneficiary? The only explanation I got was that it’s a risk product and that is why. Surely there is a better answer or solution to my concern than because I have chronic illnesses, isn’t that the whole point of this cover, so why make it difficult and unfair on something that seems immaterial to the risk caused by my illness.
