Beware Allianz travel insurance

I took out travel insurance with Allianz to cover me in the event of something beyond my control happening that would result in damages due to postponement or cancellation of ,my travels. Both these events are specifically mentioned in their policy document so I thought I was covered. I was very wrong.

Upon arrival at the airport I was told that I could not travel due to the visa for transit through Heathrow airport having the incorrect starting date. I had to cancel my flights and book alternative ones for a few days later. I suffered cancellation and other charges in the process and when claiming this from Allianz under the travel insurance it was refused due to my specific circumstances (faulty visa) not being mentioned in the policy document. This is nothing but a lame excuse for not honoring their obligations. Firstly although there are exclusions mentioned in the policy a faulty visa is not excluded. Secondly there are no mention that the 33 circumstances in the policy document is an exclusive list of circumstances. This is quite logical as one can assume that neither they or their clients can possibly think up all possible circumstances under which travel plans can be delayed. I will never use the Allianz travel policy in future. It is clear to me that they will always just look for reasons to repudiate claims. Fortunately I did not suffer something more serious such as an medical emergency. They did indicate that had I been refused transit by the authorities in the UK they would have honored the claim. That would be the typical scenario for a presumed *********. Go figure.
