****** Allan Gray Ad
Allan Gray's new ad portrays black people as being psychopathic, money hungry, primates.
Dear james-baloyi
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you have interpreted our latest advert in this manner.
The advert is set in a particular historical and cultural context and tells a universal story, in a truly South African way, of a relationship between parents and their children – one that many South Africans will identify with.
Set over a 50-year period, it tells a story of a seemingly punitive father who takes a portion of his children’s earnings from when they are young. It is only when the father dies that it is revealed he saved the money for his children. This is shown in the final scene where their uncle produces a record of the savings in a ledger. The advert aims to illustrate the discipline, patience and commitment required for long-term investing.
We hope you can see the advert in a new light with this in mind.
Kind regards
