My experience with Alim Akburally Attorneys & Conveyancers – Alim Akburally and Faeeza Akburally
I am posting this review to make others aware of my personal experience when dealing with Alim Akburally and Faeeza Akburally in relation to a proposed property transfer. I initially engaged with the business presenting itself as Alim Akburally Attorneys & Conveyancers. Mr Alim Akburally was presented to me as the senior supervising practitioner, while my dealings were primarily with Ms Faeeza Akburally. Throughout my dealings with them, I believed that I was dealing with registered legal practitioners and conveyancers. During the matter, I was provided with an “Attorney–Client Mandate” which purported to appoint them to undertake conveyancing work in relation to the transfer of immovable property. The mandate was never executed, and I cancelled the matter before any conveyancing work took place. Despite this, I subsequently received a disputed account for R9,142.50 in purported attorney-and-client fees. After concerns arose, I contacted the Legal Practice Council (LPC) to verify their practitioner status. The LPC confirmed to me that Alim Akburally was struck from the practising roll on 7 September 2018 and that it had no legal practitioner registered under the name Faeeza Akburally. In subsequent correspondence concerning my enquiry, the LPC corrected the name from Faeeza Akburally to Faeeza Sader. The LPC's records list Faeeza Sader as also having been struck from the roll on 7 September 2018. Based on my experience and the practitioner-status information subsequently provided to me by the LPC, I believe that Alim Akburally and the person who dealt with me as Faeeza Akburally (later confirmed to be Faeeza Sader) misrepresented themselves to me as registered legal practitioners and conveyancers. I would strongly recommend that anyone considering engaging a person who presents themselves as an attorney or conveyancer independently verify that person's current practitioner status with the Legal Practice Council before engaging with them.
