Alf Duncan Auctioneers – No Payment to customers for goods sold on auction

Herewith a stern warning to beware of dealing with Alf Duncan Auctioneers (Pty) Ltd. Based at 25 Mynhardt St Gants Plaza Strand

They are an auction house which does inter alia on-line auctions at https://www.alfduncan.co.za/ The original owner Mr Alf Duncan is not directly involved in the business any more, After he went into semi-retirement the new management is under Ms Angie Hunn. The buyer who manages the collection and valuation of goods for the auctions is Mr Justin Knott.

We sold R 9 000 worth of goods on their online auction in December 2025. The nett payment due to us less sales commission and collection fee amounts to R 6 826.48. The remittance advices for the amount due were issued by Alf Duncan.

Although payment within 30 days was made for previous auctions where we sold some goods, goods sold by us on the auction in December 2025 now have payment outstanding for 4 and a half months.

The Alf Duncan office does not respond to emails, the telephone stays unanswered and when one makes enquires at the reception desk at the business premises Ms Angie Hunn is not in office.

We have now gone ahead and issued a final demand for payment and due to no response from Alf Duncan we are in the process of registering a case at the Small Claims court in Strand, to try and recover the outstanding money owed to us.

The business practices of Alf Duncan as far as we are concerned now amount to direct theft of customer goods which are sold on auction but proceeds minus sales commission are not being paid to customers.

Despite this non-payment Alf Duncan is still conducts on-line auctions.
