Tote extra belt destroys the bag

I purchased a tote with a detachable handle/belt and the hook of the belt keeps hooking to the bag and has torn through my first one. I got a second one for my birthday and it’s doing the same so I have to remove the belt. They’re suck cute bags and I liked having the option. So it’s annoying that I’m forced to remove the belt.
