Aldo store manager refuse refund for having tried shoes on

I was returning an item within the 7 day legally prescribed period per the customer protection act, and the store manager refused to accept the return because I had tried on the shoes, and I had not stepped out of my house with them, but they had said because I had tried the shoes on they would not let me return them, because they need them to be exactly as they were before the sale, which is subjective as I had ofcoz tried the shoes around the house to see if I liked them and because it was within the seven day prescribed period by the CPA I was expecting they would help me with the return.
