Appalling Customer Service

For some time, I rented a storage unit from XTRASPACE located in City and Suburban, Johannesburg and have had little to complain about over the years. However, things changed when I was notified earlier this year (and without prior warning) that the building housing my unit had been sold to a company called Alderwood Trading 53 (Pty) Ltd t/a Storage Locker. Upon visiting my unit (which I don’t do on a regular basis) I found the building looking decidedly ‘tatty’ and unkept so decided to give notice. The unit was vacated and inspected on Saturday 29 July 2023 and I was notified that my deposit would be paid into my bank account during the following week. It is now close to the end of September and (despite numerous calls and promises) there is still no sign of the said funds. Thankfully the deposit only amounts to a few hundred Rands but the issue is now getting beyond ridiculous. I am unclear whether this is a deliberate company policy (to withhold the return of renters deposits for as long as possible) or is just downright inefficiency, so would caution anybody attempting to do business with this company.
