Do not rent a car from Alamo - they will not necessarily accept your drivers license and will leave you stranded.

<p>I prepaid and booked a car with Alamo as I have done many tines travelling in the USA. Upon collecting the car, Alamo refused to honor my prepaid voucher and give me a car because my drivers license does not look like the example in their book. Problem is that their book does not show a picture of a drivers license but a picture of an ID card and is clearly incorrect. They refused to even discuss it further or accept my valid legal drivers license and passport as identification and left me stranded with no alternative to have to go and rent from another company at last minute at 5 times the rate a lesser car or sleep that night at the rental car center.</p> <p> </p> <p>Complains with their customerservice got me to a call from a manager who said they go by the book and its not up to them to interpret or verify it and the fact that the picture of their sample clearly states ID card is immaterial, as it is in the book. I have rented a car from Alamo just 2 weeks ago and 50+ times in the past and never had such an experience nor imagined this insanity can be possible that ANY company can treat a loyal customer in this fashion.</p> <p> </p> <p>The local representative said to me clearly that Alamo, National and Enterprise would not honor a rental agreement or booking if you do not produce the correct ID as per their book and it seems they care less if it is a valid drivers license or not, just have to match the book. Legal or not their incorrect book is it. I did get a nice email from their customerservice that my complaint has now been resolved.......They still have my money for the rental I paid for and I am another $963 out of pocket! thats why you should not rent from Alamo, National or Enterprise as they have the little book now which seems to be more powerfull than the Law.</p> <p> </p> <p>I managed to rent a car from Hertz right next to Alamo as a new customer with my valid drivers license with no problems as they seemed to have their policies, training and procedure in order perfectly. </p>
