Airlink disgrace
Good morning,
a return airlink flight from Cape Town to Nelspruit ended in a disaster. we arrived back on 11.3.2025 my son had gone to CT to cycle the Cape Town Cycle Tour. Had his bicycle in his bike box an imported box from France, securely packed, strapped and all in order. when the bike arrived at the airport in Nst we waited and received the bag minutes after the luggage. immediately you could see the bike was broken, simply by feeling the top of the bag, (its a bag on wheels) it was floppy, at the saddle area. We went to the airlink counter to open the bike bag. Only to find the carbon fibre frame was smashed in half, the saddle was snapped off the carbon fibre post as well. It was broken in 3 places, it simply looked like it had been driven over by a vehicle not sure but something. whoever handled the bicycle had no idea that the item was of value. Nonetheless Airlink were very quick to say read the small print not our problem. I would love to see the camera footage. We are talking about a replacement value of R215 000. 00. i received an email from them... fine print The airline will not accept liability for fragile, valuable, perishable articles or baggage which is packed in damaged or unsuitable containers. Bear in mind this same bike bag has travelled the world, many times!!!! The flight to Cape Town where there were about 7 other bike bags on the flight, no problem thankfully the bicycle arrived in one piece. Now i ask, how can Airlink simply brush this aside and give me an answer as per the above. There surely has to be some form of compensation. Caution to those out there ready to book a flight with airlink, where you maybe carrying a sports item. Think Twice. Thank you
