83 year old pensioner in a wheelchair fleeced by Airlink. Falsity in advertising on 'Elegant Sunbird' Flexibility Option on booking.

I recently booked a flight for my elderly mother to join us in Cape Town after a year apart due to Covid-19. She is an 83 year old pensioner in a wheelchair. At the time of booking we took out the ‘Elegant Sunbird’ insurance to allow us flexibility in the booking due to the uncer*****y surrounding Covid. This cost us an additional +/-R 1000. This tier is described as “You get the freedom of a flexible economy class ticket with Airlink’s Elegant Sunbird Fare” and it is indeed this flexibility which I required for the additional fee that I pay for this option. As it turns out we have had to change the flight twice. The first change was a change in departure time. When the change was made it was not clear on the Airlink site that the change would entail a 4 hour wait over in Johannesburg. This is clearly not ideal for a pensioner in a wheelchair travelling alone. The second change was therefore onto a direct flight from Cape Town to Nelspruit 2 days later. On all occasions the price for these flights advertised on the Airlink website was the same - R4917. Despite the Additional flexibility cover we have bought we have been charged an additional R226,98 for the first change and an additional R740,50 for the second change. This is despite the fact that all of these flights were the same price on the internet and despite the 'Elegant Sunbird' flexibility cover that we purchased. In total we have therefore paid a total of R5 883,96 for a flight which normally costs R4 915,48. The detail of this the Sunbird Elegant tier states with regard to Booking changes “Booking changes are permitted at no charge but a difference in fare may apply.” There is no difference in the fare of the first change we made, (R4916), the final flight that I have booked (R4 915,48). and the fare of the original flight (R4 916,48) We had to conclude the transaction to secure her seat on the flight, but I believe that I have been overcharged by R968,48. We have written 6 mails to Airlink with no joy. The standard answer is ‘there are charges associated with the changes’. Clients are therefore being double penalised, and the “Elegant Sunbird” option is a case of misleading and false advertising.
