The most unsunny experience ever!

I booked an Airbnb in Randburg,Gauteng,South Africa with the title Sunny garden cottage in Parkhurst. It looked lovely and on completing the application had to provide 2 proof of identity (Passport picture and Facebook log in). I then received a text and email asking my intentions of my visit, which immediately I felt was non of the hosts business to be honest.

A day later I received sad news of a family illness and needed to leave SA and return to the UK. I gave the host 4 days notice for cancelling (in winter which is not peak season) and she kept the FULL amount for the property which is £ 66.00 for my 2 nights stay. According to the owner this is in their terms and conditions, which I think if I had simply cancelled on the morning I would understand but I gave sufficient notice to my stay needing to be cancelled, with a legitimate reason and I did offer proof from the hospital of my grandmothers illness.

In my opinion this is not how tourists should be treated - after being treated like a ********* with answering to the adverti*****t and then held for the full rental when cancelling, I certainly see them as giving Aitbnb a VERY bad name!
