Shocking AirBnB

I have used Air BnB on three occasions, and each time has been a complete nightmare. Every one of these reservations fell through where the booking was confirmed, payment submitted and the host didn't respond / answer their messages / phone etc. I had to request refunds (which I'm still waiting to be submitted) and make a last minute reservation at a hotel costing me double the price. AirBnB did little to nothing to remedy, rectify, advise or compensate.
