No warning for cancellation

I booked 10 months ago for travel in Dec and was greated by a big fat cancellation last night 2 months before my travel. I understand a host can cancel but at least explain why you are cancelling and make the funds immediately available for us to book another place with a willing host. The costs for places have sky rocketed since our booking and will now have to fork out extra to get another place. This treatment is unfair and unpleasant.
