LET DOWN BY AIRBNB
My daughter booked a lodging in Rosebank, Cape Town, advertised as a "charming garden cottage ", from March 1 2021, through AirBnB , who have a worldwide reputation. But she found her room dirty and damp, the garden full of dog droppings, and above all she was expected to share with two men - which had never been made clear by the owner. She left the same day. On top of almost R5000 deposit I had paid earlier, I had a cancellation charge of another almost R5000 taken off my credit card. After over a month of painful negotiations and complaints with four different AirBnB agents, they grudgingly refunded us R2800, less than a third of what I had paid. So in this case AirBnB failed in three respects: not inspecting the lodgings properly, allowing the host to misrepresent the conditions, and not paying an appropriate refund to us as dissatisfied clients
