AirBnB system is flawed

I made a booking on AirBnB in December 2019 which was confirmed (I assume by the host/owner) and paid a deposit of 50%. Two months later the booking was canceled! How can a booking be confirmed and deposit accepted and then 2 months later it is claimed that the owner will utilize the facility himself for that period - that is scandalous! Nowhere in the travel and hospitality industry will it be allowed that a confirmed reservation which was backed by a 50% deposit, be cancelled unilaterally by the Hotel/service provider! A confirmed booking is as good as a contract and that cannot be canceled by one party one-sidedly! The reaction by AirBnB support was to provide me with other possible options - all of which were much more expensive than my original booking. There is no protection for the consumer against actions like these!
