Additional tickets charges and non-existing customer service.
I do not like to resort to badmouthing companies, but I have tried to reach out to KLM twice. The first time I filled in the post flight feedback and implored them to reach out, without success, and the second time I got a generic answer after waiting for two weeks, that had nothing to do with my issue. Here is what happened:
I booked a return ticket from OR Tambo to Schiphol, but rescheduled the flight well before take off via the call center. They told me that everything was taken care of and I could immediately see my updated tickets on the app. The morning of the rescheduled flight I called back to make sure everything was in order and I was told that the tickets, that was on my app, was not real and that I was marked as a no show for the original date. I then asked how this could be and was told that I had 1 minute left before she hung up, after waiting for 90 min to talk to them. After the call the tickets were removed from my app. I then rushed over to the airport to go to KLM's offices, but was denied entry. I was told to go to a 3rd party ticketing agency, by security, to sort out my ticket. There they were able to locate my ticket, with some effort, and the rescheduling fee payable was R11052.86 for x2 return tickets. This is an enourmous amount of money to spend additionally on these tickets. The 3rd party agency also could not understand why it was payable or why it was soo much money. This crippled my vacation to the Netherlands as I had almost no money left.
I fly frequently with Qatar and Emirates and I could not imagine that either of them would treat a guest like this. Stay away from KLM, there are a lot of better and cheaper options out there.
