AIG Claim on Hospital plan

I have a hospital plan with AIG since 2002. In January 2021, I contracted COVID 19 and was admitted to hospital on the 15th January 2021 and discharged on the 21st January 2021. I submitted my claim to AIG on the 28th January 2021, together with a copy of my hospital discharge document, ID and copy of my bank statement. CLAIM NO. ***ZA. In response to my submission AIG responded that they require a full account from the hospital and a motivational letter from the treating doctor to justify the length of hospitalization and procedures went through.

In return to AIG mail, I attached the hospital account that I had at my disposal and indicated that a motivational letter will be difficult to obtain from the treating doctor, because they do not allow non patients to enter the hospital due to COVID 19. AIG response on the 29 January 2021 , Please note that your claim is out of scope to be addressed as an express claim and the claim is being assigned to a complex claims handler. A senior adjuster will contact you regarding your claim. You might be required to provide additional information and the claim will be subject to a medical review by our medical team. I trust the above to be in order.

Take note that this is a hospital plan that they need to pay me for my stay in hospital and not for any treatment what so ever.

I had no further communication from them until I wrote to them on the 4th February 2021,Since your last response on the 29th January 2021, nobody contacted me regarding my claim. Attached is a full hospital account I just received yesterday. I have requested a letter from the hospital doctor, but not yet received.

On the 9th February 2021, I received a mail from AIG (Mkhontwana, Sibongile) We refer to the above matter and advise as follows. Always quote your claim number when submitting any of the outstanding documents to us.

In order to enable us to process your claim as quickly as possible, please ensure that you provide us with the following documentation:

 Complete hospital account  Covid 19 results  Pathology results  Radiology reports  Letter of motivation from the treating doctor

Once we have received your documents, we will make every effort to process your claim in the shortest period of time. We will provide you with feedback.

Please take note that this is only a hospital plan where they need to pay me a daily rate of R800. 00 and they want all this information.

On the 11th February , I mailed the following documents to AIG (Mkhontwana, Sibongile) Please find attached documents: • Hospital Statement and invoice • Radiology reports • Pathology results • Covid 19 results

The doctors motivation letter is still outstanding. I have made several attempts via email with no success. I cannot go into hospital as it is not allowed due to Covid 19. I will forward you the emails I sent to the doctor.

To date no response from AIG or acknowledgement that they received my documents.

I am not sure why they require all these documentation for a claim on a Hospital plan where they are not responsible for any payments on any of the procedures that was perform. This is a clear indication that they make things difficult for you, so they don't have to pay.

Since the date of inception of this plan 2002, I have claimed once. This is a terrible company and will not recommend anybody to take out insurance with AIG

I hope this will make an impact.

Regards Basil Miller
