It is essential that we address this issue urgently. Organizations and individuals who exploit youth must held accountable for their actions. We need to create safe and supportive environments where young people can volunteer and gain valuable experience without being taken advantage of. We must also provide alternative opportunities for education, training and employment to help young people build a brighter future for themselves. The other crucial aspect of the exploitation of youth in Mahwelereng is the fact that these project are started from scratch with no official contract or agreement in place leaves young people vulnerable to exploitation. Without a clear understanding of their responsibilities, and compensation, they are at the mercy of the project leaders or organizations.
