Afrika Boerboel

I raised my interest to Karlien from Afrika Boerboele (http://www.afrikaboerboels.co.za) to buy male puppy. She informed me that she is SABBS registered and that her puppies are also registered with this proud society.

I bought a brindle coloured male boerboel puppy from Afrika Boerboele on Tuesday 13 December 2022. The puppy was born on 06 September 2022. The puppy had some bite marks on the ears and a knob on the centre of his head. Karlien said that the bite marks were due to the puppies playing with each other and that the knob on his head will disappear. I also bought one bag of puppy food from her, and the puppy was washed before collection the same day.

1. Registration a. I informed her on the same day my detail required for registration. b. I asked Karlien on 04 March 2023 on the feedback for the registration of our puppy and she said that she will follow up in the following week. There was no feedback the following week from Karlien. c. I asked Karlien on 05 April 2023 for feedback on the registration of our puppy. She then said that it will take another four weeks due to her dogs not being DNA-tested. d. I am a concerned owner of a puppy that was R14 000 from a reputable breeder, breeding with about eighty dogs, and that claims to be registered with SABBS, are delaying professional services and that her lack of administration is impacted negatively on the good reputation of the boerboel breed and that of SABBS. 2. Fleas a. A couple of days after we bought the puppy, at our house with the other adult female boerboel, I noted that both dogs was infested with fleas. We do not let the dogs go out of our yard and never had fleas. b. I bought one pill for each to treat them for the fleas. c. We never had fleas after this treatment. 3. Worms a. On 24 December 2022, we had a number of guests at our house and sat outside with the dogs. b. The puppy began to vomit and I noticed worms in the vomit. This was a huge embarresment for me in front of our guests, having a puppy infested with worms. c. I started with deworming the same day, 24 December 2022 and the puppy had an injection from the vet on 26 December. d. The other adult boerboel and ourselves had to be dewormed to prevent breeding and excretion if we were infected. e. I noted on 01 January 2023 a huge number of worms in his feces and Karlien advised that the puppy be treated with mibamax after 14 days. f. After two weeks the deworming was done and again three weeks later as the treatments were not effective to treat the poor puppy. 4. Cyst a. On Monday 06 March 2023, the knob on the puppy’s head started to swell. b. It was on Wednesday so big that I had to take him for an emergency treatment at the vet on 09 March 2023. c. The vet initially informed me that the absess must be drained with a drainpipe implant and will be removed two weeks later. d. The vet called me the afternoon of 09 March 2023, informing me that it was not an absess but a cyst that had to be removed and that the cost is much higer due to the longer operation. e. Karlien informed me that I should have called her for an alternative quotation. She also claimed that the puppy is now three months away from her and with us. This raised a concern and suddenly realised that the SABBS must instruct a medical certificate with all defects, if any, reported and that the dog is taken “voetstoots”.

I kept Karlien, the breeder of about 80 dogs, informed of every single incident. I have copied Karlien in this email as well as a report to HelloPeter.
