All that Glitters is not Gold: The Leo Lifestyle.

Abel:

I had an interest to move into the Leo Residential because it seemed a decent place to live in. But my current experience after 3 months living in it demonstrates a blatant disregard for tenant consideration and comfort, AND WELLBEING.

Among other things, I reported a column in the bathroom with mold upon my inspection prior to occupying the one bedroom. I also reported tiles which have heaved off the floor and built a hill in my bedroom, and some hollow tiles spanning about a quarter of my lounge. I literally had to sweep fregmants of grout daily. It took two weeks for the maintenance team to tell me that Africrest's The Leo Lifestyle is out of tiles stock and the team didn't know when tiles would be received. This came after a maintenance guy came in to fix only the bedroom tiles, I have to say, his job is not finished to this day.

I waited for weeks and my patience wore thin, I emailed the building maintenance head and had some of my communication ignored. It seemed I'd get responses when I copied all the "The Leo" emails I could get my hands on.

Eventually I was told tiles were delivered and I'd have maintenance done on the 8th of May. Came the 8th and I received no communication to prepare for this work, only until I queried about it. I was told "we knocked and no one answered ...." I had to remind the maintenance head that I have a job, a 9 to 5 and the building has my contact details.

Okay, so I sent an emailed to set up a date when I'd be available, to the DAY, HOUR and MUNITE, I'd be there, I said, and I was. Maintenance team showed up 30 minutes earlier and I was given an ultimatum. We either start now, or we move to next door and you'd have to wait, they said. I was coerced to quit my breakfast, which didn't help because they were already next door. I had taken leave off work for these guys.

When they could they came in to fix four hollow tiles, which lead to six-only they can explain. I took time to go outside and idle so I can give them space to work. I came back to one member sweeping tile rubble with my broom. When i asked him why, I was met with attitude and walking away. I explained this to the maintenance supervisor/head and he said SORRY ABOUT THAT (🙂).

A day later, job still not finished, tiles replaced but group not yet fully inserted. Tape around fixed tiles, so we of course exercised caution. As I was was saying, a day layer, central tiles in the Lounge have heaved and detached as well, no prior problems. This was not surprising to me when I remembered how hard they were hammering the grout out the previous day.

Of course I called the troops back. I did my best to explain to the maintenance building supervisor why I believed they went about it the wrong way, their methods seemed aggressive, of course you will disturb the other tiles if you chisel and hammer, surely there's a safer method, I said.

I even said the other guy had done it successfully jn the bedroom previously. I wasn't winning here, I seemed alone on my side.

Anyway, the team was insisting that my entire lounge must be ripped now and have the tiles laid all over again. I refused because this would stretch me to levels of inconvenience more than I'd already endured. When I asked how The Leo would assist in all this discomfort.....I'm still waiting for the answer.

The maintenance seemed to be protecting a team that showed a gross lack of professionalism. At every turn, I was dragged in to issues I should not partake in, even when I told him, I believe your guys messed up, I'm no tile expert but I know this much, and the other guy made it work....he just seemed to perpetually shield his guys.

I have paid rent for four months with no fail. But I feel I have mistreatment had been gross to me as a tenant, to say the very least. I have asked for audience of the right people to talk to at the Leo about this discomfort, and frankly wellbeing when I have been paying rent to the last cent, I'm still waiting for the answer. I walked into my apartment with dust pathwaying as it pleased, don't you guys have equipment to protect my property while yoh work, no answer. I had to vacuum my couch for a good thirty minutes, such the dust out of my speakers and all.

How is Africrest accounting to all this, I'm still waiting....
