Consultant Error in Settlement Amount

i was informed via telephone that i can get a discount on my outstanding balance if i make a settlement payment of R2320.00 .i made the payment and then phone a day or two later to ask if the payment was received.i was then told the consultant made an error and that the amount of R400.00 is still owing.now they threatening me with further action.
