Promises, promises

In March this year, I negotiated a fair price for a complete household furniture removal (from Ballito in KZN to Kommetjie in the Western Cape), with African Furniture Removals (AFR). The company won a competitive tender against four other companies. As the delivery address was in a gravel cul-de-sac, there was the question on whether the last fifty metres or so would require the services of a shuttle. I advised the consultant that I thought the truck could get right to the property, and sent several photographs showing the approach. The consultant added the cost of the shuttle to the quote (R3105.00 incl VAT), with the proviso that should the shuttle not be used, it would not be charged. [QUOTE: We will not charge a shuttle cost if no shuttle was used] The shuttle arrived at the destination before the removal van, but the van reversed up the gravel road, right up to the gate at the destination. The shuttle was not used in the move. The consultant refuses to refund the shuttle cost, as it had come to site. Remember, I had told him I thought the shuttle would not be required. Beware false promises!
