They contacted me, I told them I wasn't interested and terminated the call. Next thing I get an sms stating that I gave permission for them request my credit report, which I certainly did not. That's ***** and surely in contravention of the PoPI Act.

I was misinformed regarding the review they will conduct on the interest rate I pay on my debts. It was a shock when I realized they placed me under debt review and counseling. I asked for a rejection and now they want my bank statement. They are a **** that we should not let off the hook. I am going to take them to court over this matter

I am extremely dissatisfied with the conduct of African Debt Restructuring in handling my financial matter. When I was contacted, I was told the purpose of the service was to help me reduce interest on my vehicle accounts and to assist me in saving money due to high interest charges. The consultant was very persuasive and repeatedly reassured me that the goal was to “help me financially” and reduce my monthly burden so I could focus on other expenses. At no point was it clearly and properly explained that I was being placed under a debt review process, nor was the full nature, implications, or consequences of debt review disclosed to me in a transparent manner. I was later sent a mandate through my ABSA banking app and asked to accept it. Based on the information provided to me at the time, I understood this to be linked only to interest reduction and agreed in good faith. This took place while I was recently discharged from hospital after giving birth, during a vulnerable period where I was not in a position to fully analyse or understand complex financial agreements. I believe the timing and presentation of this service influenced my decision-making. An amount of R11,670.70 was subsequently debited from my ABSA account, which I dispute as I was not fully and clearly informed that I was authorising a debt review-related debit order. I am also concerned about how this company obtained access to my personal and financial information, as they appeared to have detailed knowledge of my financial situation without me knowingly or explicitly sharing this with them. I did not consent to my information being used or accessed in this way. I require the following: * Immediate refund of R11,670.70 * Cancellation and written confirmation that all debit orders linked to this service are stopped * Full written explanation of the service I was placed under * Proof of informed consent and a valid signed mandate * Explanation of how my personal and financial information was obtained and used If this matter is not resolved urgently, I will escalate it to the National Credit Regulator (NCR), the Information Regulator (POPIA complaint), and other relevant authorities.
