Unresolved case re: Overdraft account that was activated without my consent

Good day,

I would like to follow up on a complaint regarding a case that was logged on the 3rd of September 2024 regarding an overdraft account that was alleged to be activated when I received funds in the My World account when I app**** for a loan during May.

Please take note of the following occurrences regarding this account:

I had initially app**** for an overdraft account in 2023 however I was requested to move my salary to African Bank which I declined because I work for a financial institution therefore, I can't move my salary to another institution The consultant then suggested I transfer a minimum amount of R8000 into my World account which I also declined as I did not want to move around funds and go through the admin of changing debit order details. I requested that the account be closed as I will not make use of the overdraft facilities. I was then instructed by the consultant to go to the nearest African Bank branch to have this done. I went to the branch and the branch consultant advised me that the overdraft will be automatically deactivated if I don't deposit the R8000 in my account within a month. I then acknowledged her feedback and assumed that it's closed after a month as I did not transfer any funds amounting to w minimum of R8000 to the account For the next couple of months consultants would call me offering me to switch my salary to African Bank to which I would decline stating the reasons I have stated above. In December 2023 I app**** for a loan and the funds were paid into the My world account and that didn't activate the overdraft In May 2024 I app**** for another loan and the funds were also paid into the My world account On the 2nd September I get a call from the African Bank collections department informing me that I have an overdraft account that has been handed over because it was in arrears. I made the consultant aware that I did not apply for an overdraft and the only funds I used from my world account were funds from the loan I app**** for A case was then logged on my behalf to investigate this further. I had to follow up after a month as I was never contacted within the 7 working days SLA. A consultant named Doreen eventually reached out to me after a complaint I made on Hello Peter and I had to explain the story. She then advised that she would investigate further and escalate the matter. Till today I can't get hold of Doreen and I am being sent from pillar to post and being harassed by consultants from the collection department demanding I make a payment arrangement. This is very draining as I must retell the same story about this pending case.

I am reaching out to you for further assistance regarding this matter as this may tarnish my credit record if it is left unresolved and I am not willing to pay for something I did not agree to.

Why wasn't I made aware of this overdraft when it was initially activated by the funds from the loan? Why does it state that the Overdraft account was only active on the 2nd of September 2024 however the consultants claim that the funds were loaded in May? Why were there no statements or calls made to me when I missed the first instalment due for my first payment? I was only made aware of this when the account was in arrears All my SMS notifications for my transactions show that I was making use of the funds from the loan and there was no negative balance showing to indicate that I was making use of the funds from the overdraft facility Why was this account only added to my African Bank profile when it was in arrears. Why wasn't it added all along for me to be able to see and keep track like all my other accounts.

I look forward to your assistance and feedback.

Good day,

Till today this issue has not been resolved and when I contact the Complaints department I am told that the matter has been escalated to relevant parties. I would like to activate a payment break for one of my loans and this issue is preventing me from activating it.

I am really not happy with your service as this has been going on for 5 months with no resolution.
