Unfair credit listing after paying one day late due to miscommunication
Regarding account ********** 005. I've been with African Bank for years. As a single parent there have been tough times and I could always depend on African Bank to provide me with the much needed loan for education, emergencies and even a times food for the month. yes there has been times when I've been behind in payments due to tough times but I always ensured that i pay it up to date the minute I am able. Things have improved for me and i am eventually on my feet. In February this year I was offered the opportunity of a 30% discount if I paid my 2 African Bank accounts in full. Even though it would take my entire bonus I jumped at the opportunity as I have been working hard to improve my credit score in order to buy my first home at the age of 44 :). So on 25 Feb I receive a settlement later stating that I have until 15 March to make the full payment. On chatting to a consultant it was confirmed that I was ok as long as I paid everything in full by the 15th. Because I was still unsure, I rather decided to still make a normal payment on the 1 March as well (note that this is 1 day late) cause I was too scared of being labelled a late payer even though I was paying in full and doing an early settlement. Up to then I have been paying well and even paying a bit extra at times. I was really working on building my credit score. Just to find out that African bank has now penalized me by noting me as skipping a month?! Normally you only list a month late if someone pays after the 6th? I have been liaising with African bank for 2 months now and even though the store manager at Tygervalley Felicia Haricombe-Sait was beyond sympathetic and helpful this couldn't be resolved. Even my statements show that I was paying well for the past year already, I am still now listed as a late payer. My statement doesnt even indicate a late payment! Now you can argue on a technicality of one day but really African Bank? I have been a loyal client. I thought listings are used to indicate bad payers, not to unfairly disadvantage a client who pays ONE DAY late due to a misunderstanding between client, consultant and a letter received indicating payment is only due 15 March?? My dream of eventually applying for a home loan has to be put on hold due to a very unfair listing... Please African bank....does this seem reasonable and fair to you. Is there nobody who can assist me in this please? I will still support African bank as the service has been good. I am just confused as to why you are treating your customers in this unfair manner and listing me as a late payer when in actual fact I settled my account months earlier than the contract.
