*****ulent Loan – African Bank Cannot Trace Their Own Payout

*****ulent Loan – African Bank Cannot Trace Their Own Payout

**Complaint:** This is now the second time I am reporting a *****ulent loan opened in my name. I never received a cent, and I have the affidavit to prove it. I even went to three SAPS stations — all confirmed they cannot open a case because no money ever came into my account.

Yet African Bank cannot tell me where the money was paid or who the real beneficiary was. Instead, they keep giving me the runaround while my credit profile hangs in the balance.

This is not just bad service — it’s a **serious failure of security and compliance**. If African Bank cannot trace its own loan disbur*****ts, how can any customer feel safe banking with them?

I want:

1. Proof of where the loan funds were paid. 2. Confirmation my credit record will not be affected. 3. Written assurance the matter will remain open until fully resolved.

If this is not resolved urgently, I will escalate to the NCR, Banking Ombud, and the Information Regulator

Do you treat all ***** queries with an umbrella approach? Because that would be unfair to us as customers.
I am now reporting the same *****ulent loan in my name for the second time. My first query was closed without even being properly checked. Who initiated that application? Where were the funds paid? To this day, African Bank cannot tell me.
I have submitted all documents, including an affidavit, but SAPS cannot give me a case number since the funds never came into my account. So I am stuck in the middle while African Bank’s own processes failed. Who is supposed to help me in this case?
Instead of protecting me as a customer, I am being given the run-around. This is not just poor service — it is negligence. How can a loan be approved with a 0% interest rate and no proper verification? How can funds disappear without a trace?
I demand:
• Confirmation the loan is flagged as ***** and will not affect my credit record.
• Transparency on where the funds were paid.
• Assurance this case remains open until fully resolved.
African Bank, your internal control failures are now my problem, and that is unacceptable. Customers deserve accountability, not empty umbrella responses

Unhappy Customer

Thank you for confirming that an internal case has been registered.

I must stress that I am not willing to accept a blanket 30-day turnaround time. This is not a routine query — it is a matter of *****, negligent lending, and ******** processing of my personal information without consent.

Your own systems reflect that:

The debit order request was declined, yet the loan was still disbursed.

You cannot trace where the funds were paid.

My personal details were used without my authorization.

These are serious internal control failures that directly expose me to reputational and financial risk. Waiting 30 days while my credit profile hangs in the balance is unacceptable
These are serious internal control failures that directly expose me to reputational and financial risk. Waiting 30 days while my credit profile hangs in the balance is unacceptable.

I expect this matter to be treated with immediate priority and for African Bank to:

Flag and confirm in writing that the loan is marked as ***** and will not affect my credit profile.

Urgently trace and disclose where the funds were paid.

Confirm that the case will remain open until a full resolution is reached.
If African Bank cannot expedite this matter, I will escalate it without delay to the National Credit Regulator, Banking Ombud, and the Information Regulator, as it raises serious questions about compliance with the National Credit Act and POPIA.

This is not only about a loan — it is about the trust and security of your customers’ information.

To provide a comprehensive response, our investigation team may need additional time to trace the funds and verify all relevant account activity. We understand that waiting can be frustrating, and we will keep your case open until full resolution.

I acknowledge that your investigation team may require additional time to trace the funds and verify account activity. However, my credit profile cannot be compromised while this matter remains unresolved.

On a recorded call, your consultant confirmed that information is submitted to the credit bureaus on the 1st of each month. Since today is only the 18th, I am urgently requesting

This *****ulent account is flagged as “under ***** investigation” and not submitted to any credit bureau on the 1st.

Written confirmation is provided that my credit record will remain protected while you continue investigating.

I understand investigations take time, but as the bank has already acknowledged this case as potential *****, I expect credit bureau protection to be prioritised. Allowing my personal information to be listed before resolution would be unfair, negligent, and in breach of both the National Credit Act and POPIA.

As if the *****ulent loan in my name wasn’t enough, I have now received a DebiCheck SMS from African Bank at 12h30 AM saying a mandate was “successfully suspended.”

Why is African Bank processing midnight DebiCheck activity in my name while the account is supposed to be under ***** investigation? Who initiated this? Why is my personal data still being used without my consent?

My first query was closed without being properly investigated, and now your systems are still processing transactions linked to a loan you cannot even explain. This is not only poor customer service, it looks like a serious internal control and POPIA breach.

This is unacceptable, and I will escalate further to the Information Regulator, the National Credit Regulator, and the Ombud if I do not get an immediate, transparent response

I honestly cannot believe the dishonesty from African Bank. I was sent an SMS confirming that the DebiCheck mandate for this *****ulent loan was suspended, yet you still went ahead and debited my account afterwards. How is that not lying to your customers?

This loan is under dispute, you cannot trace where the funds were paid or who even initiated the application, yet instead of protecting me, you are trying to take money that was never paid to me in the first place.
African Bank – are your systems this broken, or is this deliberate neglect? Either way, this is ***** on top of *****. You cannot tell a customer “suspended” and then sneak in a debit behind their back.

If this is not immediately reversed and confirmed as *****, I will escalate to the Ombudsman, NCR and Information Regulator for ******** processing of my personal information and debiting my account under false pretenses.

Stop lying to your customers. Fix your controls. Resolve this case properly.

African Bank, this *****ulent loan in my name will cost you far more than the R26k you claim. If you force me into default on my real loan because of your negligence, the legal, reputational, and regulatory consequences will be severe.

🔴 You debited me an installment that matches my real loan exactly. How can one customer have two loans with the same installment? This is impossible and proves your system failed, yet you still listed the *****ulent loan on my credit profile — despite it being under dispute.

🔴 By doing this, you are in breach of:

NCA Section 72 – consumers’ right to dispute incorrect credit information.

POPIA – processing my personal information without consent.

FAIS Act – allowing unqualified staff to act as full representatives without RE5/FAIS.

The fines for these failures are not small:

Up to R10 million or 10 years imprisonment under POPIA.

Up to R1 million fines and license suspension under FAIS.

NCR can impose administrative fines up to 10% of annual turnover for reckless lending

So instead of fixing your mess, you are digging yourselves deeper into non-compliance.

I demand:

Immediate removal of the *****ulent loan from my profile.

Refund of debited amounts.

Written confirmation that the account is flagged as *****.

An explanation of who initiated the loan and where the funds were paid.

Stop hiding behind blanket approaches. Every day this is unresolved adds to your liability.

Your people keep quiet when I escalate via email — you don’t even acknowledge receipt. What kind of customer service is that?

I am raising a serious ***** dispute and instead of urgency, I get silence, delays, and blanket responses. This is not just bad service, it’s gross negligence.

If you cannot handle basic customer escalations, how can anyone trust you to handle their finances?

Please make sure when you escalate, you escalate to people who will give me answers ASAP. If it has to get to your Head of *****, then let it be, because what happens after this will sit squarely on African Bank.

I am sick and tired of chasing for answers while you keep quiet, ignore emails, and play blanket approach games. You allowed a *****ulent loan in my name, you can’t trace where the funds were paid, and instead of resolving it, you debit me, list me with the credit bureau, and then disappear when I escalate.

This is incompetency at the highest level — and it will cost you more when regulators, NCR, FAIS, and the Info Regulator start asking the same questions I am asking now.

Fix this, and fix it fast.

How does African Bank expect customers to trust them when their OWN advisors contradict themselves on recorded lines? The SAME advisor told me:

“You make my job harder when you complain on HelloPeter” (unprofessional and insulting).

That my DebiCheck was suspended so no debit would go off.

That the *****ulent loan would not be listed with the bureau.
Yet what happened? I was STILL debited and African Bank STILL listed a loan that is under dispute!

Your people lie, your internal controls are a joke, and now my credit profile is damaged because of YOUR failure. I will not sit quietly while African Bank hides behind “investigations” while destroying customers’ financial standing.

Fix this IMMEDIATELY — or I will escalate to the NCR, FAIS Ombud, Info Regulator, and even the socials. Enough of this incompetence.

I reported a *****ulent loan with African Bank on 8 August. To date, I have received no meaningful feedback on who accessed and processed my personal information without my consent.

I have already escalated this matter to the NCR, FAIS Ombud, and the Information Regulator, yet African Bank continues to remain silent while my credit profile suffers because of YOUR internal failures.

This is not just incompetence – it’s reckless disregard for customer rights. Your refusal to update me or fix the damage shows exactly why so many people no longer trust African Bank. How long must a customer wait for accountability? Or do you only take ***** seriously when regulators force your hand
