Ubank and African bank seem to have teamed up to **** people off their deceased estate funds

Ubank is a bank that was mostly used by mine workers to for saving purposes primarily. It was recently sold to African bank with all its assets and accounts. Now African bank seem to be running some **** with peoples funds that had accounts with Ubank.

We recently lost a parent that had an account with uBank, we know and certain that she had more than one account as we have account numbers. We went to the bank to enquire about the accounts requesting statements af all accounts associated with the deceased. We got printed the statement of the main account and it was said that they would need to send an email to the head office in Johannesburg to request access to other accounts, and the email was sent on the 8th of Januarry 2025. I called in branch we went to on the 18 of January to do follow up and I was told the feedback they got from the head office is that a payout was made on the 14th of January 2025. This came as a shock and raised suspicions because; 1. We had not received any funds from African bank 2.We enquired about statements of all accounts and we never received them 3. Even if there was a payout made, we would still need the statements.

I called the bank again asking for statements as our first enquiry and I was told the deceased had one account with no funds and it had been closed, we disputed that saying we have account numbers of other accounts which we are certain that it does have funds, amd another email was sent on the 20th January 2025. I did a follow up again on the 28th January 2025 in a different branch now as I was no longer in the Eastern Cape where I initially did the first enquiry. Email was sent with all the attachments and info again. On our first encounter with the bank we were told that the turnaround time for such cases is 20 business days, and from the 8th of January until today 20 business day has now passed amd there is no feedback as yet.

Now looking at the matter, it is likely that it something that they usually do and get away with it as most uBank account holders were people that are deemed illiterate. It is just unfortunate for them now they are dealing with a set of different people from those they usually deal with. They may have ****med and get away with these kind of ****s but they are unfortunately not getting away with this one. African bank we need our money

I have been waiting for feedback since the 8th of January 2025, and yet I still need to allow 72 hours for feedback. That's really comforting

This is surprisng and confusing at same time. On the 18th of this month you guys provided an email for me to forward the deceased documents which included the deceased ID copy and death certificate, which i did. 5 days later you are asking me to provide the same and ID numbers that are on the documents that I sent u 5 days back. Further more to this, on the previous message that I sent I provided u with the reference number that I was provided with on the last encounter when I went to the branch as there were new developments on the case that involved third parties, and that is the reason I provided you with the reference number to follow up the case. And yet you are asking me for ID numbers that are on the documents you people have.

The attention and urgency given to the matter is exactly what I highlighted on the first message that I sent. Enquiry that i made and provided all the information and related documents on the 8th of January 2025, is still not resolved more than a month later, and I am just being asked for info that I provided on the first day

What is a reference number for if it cannot be used to track a case?
