Technical problems with beneficiaries
I cannot change my beneficiary details on the SARS-ITA beneficiary. It reverts to an older year of payment when I print out a proof of payment, even though it accepts the change when the payment is being made...is there something wrong with your banking app?

26 Feb 2026, 11:56Hi, apologies my phone was off, but I am available now. Also, please be advised that the problem lies with the SARS-PROV beneficiary, not SARS-ITA. The payment was made at about 07h30 on 24th February and SARS has already confirmed receipt of funds. The only problem is that the recipient ref no is showing 2023 instead of 2026. As stated, I changed the beneficiary ref to 2026, but the proof of payment went through reflecting 2023 instead.

27 Feb 2026, 07:41Back to an earlier issue please: I have been informed by AB that they cannot fix their banking app that no longer works on older Android phones, or is even available on Playstore anymore for these phones. I find this unacceptable, since there may be MANY of your customers that use older phones that will have the same problem as me. Last time the bank managed to remedy this problem somehow, why can their IT dept not do so again? PLEASE CAN AB LOOK DEEPER INTO THIS ISSUE!!

27 Feb 2026, 12:53Hi Zane, thank you for your feedback. I completely understand how frustrating this situation must be, especially if your phone is already running the latest operating system available for that device.
As technology and security standards evolve, we are required to update our app to meet the latest security, regulatory, and performance requirements. Unfortunately, older operating systems may no longer support the advanced security features needed to protect customer accounts and personal information. For this reason, the app may not function on certain older devices, even if they are fully up to date according to the manufacturer. Alternatively you can continue to use internet banking or cellphone banking.

06 Mar 2026, 12:40Hi, thanks for your feedback.
This issue has caused me serious frustration with SARS.
It seems that the beneficiary can only be registered for the single payment of provisional tax made every 6 months, even though the payment feature asks for a new reference. When I put is the new reference, it still keeps the old year's reference, which is reflected on the proof of payment.
So, either this is a defect on your payment system, or the only way to do these payments properly is to delete the once-off beneficiary completely and re-register it every time a payment is made?
I would appreciate your feedback on this.

06 Mar 2026, 14:45Once again, my question is: Is this a fault on the internet banking site, or is the only way to make such SARs payments to delete the beneficiary altogether every time and re-register it?

08 Mar 2026, 19:16Hi, thank you for clearing that up, I will do that from now on.
I have to also state, however, that I have never had this problem before, otherwise I would have had the same issue with my 2024 and 2025 provisional tax payments going into the wrong SARS account.
(I have been paying those years' taxes with the same registered beneficiary since 2023).
This means that something must have changed on your internet banking app fairly recently, which makes it doubtful that it is a SARS error?

11 Mar 2026, 09:41Thank you for your feedback and for explaining the situation. I understand your concern, especially since you have previously made provisional tax payments using the same registered beneficiary without any issues.
At this stage, we cannot confirm that any changes were made on the internet banking app that would have affected the payment process. In some cases, SARS may allocate payments differently depending on the reference number used or the specific tax type selected at the time of payment.
