Shoddy service

I had an account in arrears about 5 years ago. It has since been paid up in full but they are now refusing to provide me with a loan because of a past experience where I lost my job which is why I missed a few payments. Moment I was employed again I paid the loan off. Surely such a large company should also take circumstances into account. Also when I ask for a call back, I do not receive any calls
