Lack of urgency, no follow through

I app**** for credit on 12 June and have been "in the final stages" since 15 June. Confirmation of employment is the only outstanding issue yet to get this information I have had to phone every single day since Friday. I have phoned to follow up twice today and the issue has been "escalated" on the first call and yet, no one called my employer? Why does it take so long to do anything with you guys?
